The Late Mwalimu J. K. Nyerere officially opened Biharamulo Hospital on 16th November 1969.
In 1976 the hospital operated as the Designated District Hospital (DDH) for Biharamulo District. On 22nd June 1991 the Diocese of Rulenge (Owner of the hospital) presently Rulenge–Ngara Diocese entered an agreement with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzanian. (DDH – Agreement).

The Government through the Ministry of Health and social welfare provides was to provide funds for recurrent expenditure and the Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara provides funds for development expenditure.
It was re-registered in 1997 with registration No. 184001. Extrapolation from 2002 National population settlement census by growth rate of 4.8%, the district has 205,466 people.
2 .  GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Biharamulo District is one of the eight districts found in Kagera Region. It is situated between 20 15 to 30 15 south equator and 310 00 – 320 00 east of standard meridian. This district has an area of 5,627 square kilometers and it shares boundaries with Muleba District in North, Chato District in East, Geita, Bukombe District in South. Kibondo and Ngara Districts on to the west. Administratively the district is divided into 2 divisions of Nyarubungo and Lusahunga, 8 wards 51 villages. The District head quarter is at Biharamulo Township.
3.  PHYSICAL FEATURES.
The altitude for Biharamulo district ranges at 1132-1650 metres above sea level. Land formation is in the order of flat undulating rolling landscapes and hilly. This scenery extends as far as south-eastern, Biharamulo adjacent to Chato and Bukombe Districts. North to West takes the shape of rolling landscapes. A big part of this land is occupied by Burigi Game Reserve, a famous wildlife treasure in Kagera Region. Last part that is central section of Biharamulo District is hilly and situated in the described landscape.
